PM Narendra Modi's flagship financial inclusion initiative has made significant strides since its launch on 28 August, 2014. The total number of accounts has grown to 50 crore, and the value of deposits touching Rs 2.03 lakh crore. The scheme had witnessed a high number of zero balance accounts in its first year, but that number has reduced significantly over the last nine years.
