India's diamond trade is down by more than 20 per cent since the Russia-Ukraine war began. Almost 90 per cent of the world's mined diamonds are processed in Surat. Growing diamonds in a laboratory has emerged as an effective solution to the crisis. Lab-grown diamonds are eco-friendly and cost-effective. They have the potential to replace mined diamonds in the future.
