Published On: November 13, 2023 - Garment workers in Bangladesh are protesting in demand of better pay and improved working conditions. Due to the ongoing protests, the industry manufacturers have shuttered 150 readymade garment factories indefinitely. Workers demand that their minimum wages be hiked from 8,300 takas to 25,000 takas. As per the data from March 2020 to March 2021, Bangladesh's average monthly basic pay is $US 95, lower than that of India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.
