Published On: August 20, 2024 - The Rongmei Naga tribe began an indefinite blockade of key routes, including NH-37, at midnight on Sunday. NH-37, connecting Jiribam in Manipur to Silchar in Assam, is a crucial lifeline for the state. Traffic on National Highway 37 (NH-37) and Tongjei Maril Road has come to a standstill due to the indefinite bandh called by the Rongmei Naga Council. The shutdown, which started at midnight on August 18, has led to widespread disruption as bandh supporters have blocked roads by felling trees, placing boulders, and burning tyres. The blockade has severely affected the supply of goods in Manipur. MPCC Chief Meghachandra Singh also slammed Biren Singh for not being able to restore peace in the state.
