Published On: November 14, 2023 - In the aftermath of Diwali, the city woke up to a 'severe' air quality situation. Despite the Supreme Court's firecracker ban, residents celebrated with a bang, and now toxic haze blankets the capital. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, most areas are recording 'severe' category on the Air Quality Index (AQI). The post-Diwali overall AQI of the capital jumps above 400, with the NCR experiencing 'severe' air quality on 14 November. This was a slight improvement over the last six-seven years, but it still lingered in the 'very poor' category. Government officials from the Commission for Air Quality Management attribute the spike to the widespread defiance of the firecracker ban.
