Soldier On Leave Killed, Belonged to Manipur's Kom Community

Published On: September 18, 2023 - An Indian Army soldier on leave, who was abducted at gunpoint from his home in Imphal West, was found shot in the head on Sunday morning. The incident has sent fear through the state's small Kom community. Assistant Professor of JNU, Dr Thongkholal Haokip says the Kom community has remained neutral on the ongoing ethnic clashes in Manipur, so the Home Minister and Chief Minister should take this incident seriously. He adds that the Manipur Police and para-military forces should be given more power to deal with anti-social elements.
