Tweaked SUV Definition

Published On: July 12, 2023 - The GST Council has decided to increase the cess on utility vehicles (UVs) by 200 basis points, raising it from 20% to 22%. As a result, UVs measuring over four metres will experience a price increase of 2%. Previously, larger UVs were subject to a GST rate of 28% along with a cess of up to 22%. However, the requirement specifically for SUVs has been eliminated, resulting in all larger SUVs/Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) being subjected to a 22% cess rate instead of the previous 20%.
