In the world's largest elections, 970 million Indians will vote from April 19 till June 1. The 2024 Lok Sabha polls are divided into 7 phases, across 806 districts, 28 states, and 8 Union Territories. As India rounds up the fourth phase, a low voter turnout has been a consistent headache across all phases. While many reasons contribute to this historical trend, this time, it's the heatwave bringing down the voter turnout. India currently has around 450 million domestic migrant voters who still do not get easy access to vote. To solve this issue, the Election Commission has been working on an indigenous e-voting system using blockchain technology developed by IIT Madras and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).
