Why is Politics over OBC quotas heating up?

On May 22, the Calcutta High Court cancelled recognition of 77 castes as Other Backward Classes. Most of them are Muslims. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she will extend OBC quota benefits to Muslims, notwithstanding the court order. The Rajasthan government has announced that it would review its policy after the Calcutta High Court ruling. The Rajasthan government may exclude 14 Muslim castes from the OBC quota.
